James Reynold Lonborg (born April 16, 1942) is an American former professional baseball right-handed starting pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Boston Red Sox (1965–1971), Milwaukee Brewers (1972), and Philadelphia Phillies (1973–1979). Though nicknamed "Gentleman Jim", he was known for fearlessly pitching on the inside of the plate throughout his fifteen-year career. All-Star (1967) AL Cy Young Award (1967) The first time a pitcher from the Rex Sox had won it.. AL wins leader (1967) AL strikeout leader (1967) Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame On the Boston-based sitcom Cheers, the photo of Sam Malone pitching is actually that of Lonborg.
